Flokk recently hosted the second edition of its HÅG Capisco design competition, bringing together creativity and collaboration to highlight the versatility of this iconic chair celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2024. Building on the success of the first competition in Stockholm earlier this year, this time we took the event to Gothenburg, showcasing innovative designs from some of Gothenburg’s finest interior architects.
The second edition of the event featured designs from Kaka Arkitekter, Kaminsky Arkitektur, Volvo Cars Workplace Design Team, Arkitektbyrån Design, and Kanozi. The brief was simple but challenging: take a “blank” HÅG Capisco chair and transform it using textile and metal paints, provided as part of a creative kit. The architects had two weeks to complete their designs, blending artistry with the functional design of the chair.
The entries were unveiled during an evening event at Flokk’s Gothenburg showroom, attended by architects, resellers, and close collaborators. The atmosphere was lively, with attendees engaging in conversations about the innovative designs and the inspirations behind them.
A panel of judges—Matilda Hunyadi, Designer and Founder of Sloydlab, Esa Airas, Managing Director at Gabriel Sweden, and Jessica Borgar, Marketing and Sales at Flokk Sweden—evaluated the designs. The jury awarded first place to Kaka Arkitekter for their chair, “The Cosmopolitan.”
Describing their creation, Kaka Arkitekter said: “Born ready for something bigger! Dressed in neon and blue mascara, Capisco from Røros travels the world to inspire and manifest.” The jury praised the chair for its bold concept and execution, commenting; “It was love at first sight with this design… The details and composition make it a piece that continues to captivate long after the initial impression.”
Alongside the glory, the winning studio received six HÅG Capisco chairs for their office.
Commenting on the event, Johanna Hedström, Vice President Marketing & Digital at Flokk, said: “This competition is a great way to engage with our partners and celebrate the creativity that the HÅG Capisco chair inspires. The energy at the Gothenburg event was fantastic, and it’s been exciting to see the different interpretations of such an iconic piece of furniture.”
The event also acknowledged the legacy of Peter Opsvik, the designer of the HÅG Capisco chair, who passed away earlier this year. This competition reflects not only the enduring appeal of his design but also the vibrant community that it continues to inspire.
Flokk extends its gratitude to all the participants, judges, and guests who made the Gothenburg event a success!
