HÅG extends EU Ecolabel certification to 47 model variants

HÅG's EU Ecolabel licence now covers 10 HÅG chair families and 47 model variants, following Ecolabelling Norway's approval of a major extension, adding 24 models and extending validity to 31 December 2029. HÅG has long set the pace for sustainability within Flokk, and that approach is now spreading across the group.

Getting there took two years. Every certified chair was mapped down to its smallest component: 2,923 unique parts, sourced from 52 suppliers, each one checked against the label's criteria.

That component count matters. Other EU Ecolabel furniture certifications on the market to date have gone to far simpler products, such as stacking chairs built from a handful of parts. A task chair is a different order of complexity: a gas lift mechanism, tilt mechanism, castors, foam, upholstery and frame components, each with its own supply chain to trace and document.  To our knowledge, HÅG was among the first manufacturers to achieve the EU Ecolabel for fully functional task chairs. That certification landed in 2024. With this extension, the licence now spans nine task chair families (plus one fixed frame chair, HÅG Celi).

What the label actually checks

 EU Ecolabel is the official EU Type I ecolabel, independently verified rather than self-declared. For furniture, that means scrutiny at the material level: recycled content in plastics, restrictions on hazardous chemicals, rules on surface treatments and coatings, and requirements around disassembly for repair and recycling. A chair doesn't qualify because it looks sustainable. It qualifies because every part of it, traced back to its supplier, can be shown to meet the criteria on paper.

Closing the gaps meant real changes: a chemical swapped out, a recycled content ratio increased, a textile requalified, a supplier's documentation improved, repeated across every part that didn't yet meet the criteria.

The work behind the certificate

Flokk’s Product Environment Team works across the portfolio to document product environmental performance. This certification was led by Edward Buzura, Product Environmental Certification Lead, who ran the certification and audit, working alongside Kenneth Dam Lindegaard Knudsen, Senior Product Environmental Engineer, who built the detailed bills of materials, with external support from Selma Louise Vinterset, an external chemical expert who assessed material compliance across the range.

Beyond the label

EU Ecolabel confirms that a chair was made with every effort to reduce its impact on the environment.  Paired with an Environmental Product Declaration, the EU Ecolabel gives customers complementary environmental information: the Ecolabel verifies compliance with strict multi-criteria requirements, while the EPD provides quantified, independently verified life-cycle environmental impacts. 

Flokk holds up-to-date, third-party verified EPDs across 81 product families, alongside 167 product families with a Type I ecolabel or equivalent, GREENGUARD Gold on 85% of EPD-certified products, and FSC Chain of Custody at four factories.
