Upcycling project in Singapore for Flokk customer Neste

In 2020, Flokk worked with global renewable and circular solution company Neste to upgrade chairs in their Singapore commercial office in the most sustainable way possible. This included the addition of a range of Flokk chairs as well as a complete refurbish of the existing Flokk chairs currently on site, which have been used for over ten years.

Not wanting anything to go to waste, the used fabric removed from the 10-year old chairs was saved for upcycling into new products. Flokk reached out to Yvette Ng, the Singapore-based designer behind YNG, who specialises in custom-designed clothing and accessories made from sustainable and upcycled materials. They also provide happy and stress-free working opportunities for elderly seamstresses within their local community.

The fabric was crafted into a series of stylish bags, which were purchased and thereafter given as rewards to some of the Neste employees to use in their daily lives.

"Neste's purpose is to create a healthier planet for our children," said Eero Stahlberg, General Manager of Neste Asia Pacific Pte Ltd. "This project is just one of many ways in which Neste, together with our partners, is turning waste into high-quality end products whilst adding value to local communities."

The RH Logic is just one of many of our chairs with a circular design philosophy. By reducing the amount of glue we use and clever component use, we are able to disassemble our chairs allowing for simple parts replacements and recycling at end of life, making them more the sustainable choice.
