Colour matters at Workspace Expo Paris

Explore the concept and material approach behind Flokk’s Colour Matters installation at Workspace Expo Paris.

At this year’s Workspace Expo Paris, Flokk presents Colour Matters - a workspace concept exploring how colour shapes the way we experience work.

Rather than organising the space by brand or product category, the installation is structured around behavioural intent. Areas are defined by how they are meant to be used - for focus, collaboration or informal interaction - with colour acting as the primary tool to signal these shifts.

Across the stand, changes in tone, contrast and texture demonstrate how atmosphere can be shaped through deliberate, considered decisions.

Why colour matters

Research in neuroscience shows that our surroundings interact with the nervous system over time. Tone, saturation and contrast can influence stress levels, attention and emotional balance.

In workplace design, colour can either support how a space is used or work against it.

There is no single ideal solution. People experience sensory input differently, and effective environments respond to this range. The Colour Matters approach considers how colour can define behavioural intent - supporting focus, collaboration or informal interaction through deliberate spatial cues.

This direction is informed by research and interpreted through design expertise.

A considered material approach

Within the installation, this thinking is translated into specific material and palette decisions.

Fabrics and finishes have been selected to create distinction between zones while maintaining overall cohesion across brands and product typologies.

Rather than layering colour for impact, the stand uses controlled variation — allowing texture, tone and contrast to guide movement through the space without visual overload.

The result is a unified environment where material choice reinforces how each area is meant to be used.
