Hunting & Narud unveil Flokk's innovative stand design for Orgatec 2024

Experience Flokk’s sustainable exhibition ‘Borrowed from the Loop,’ designed by Hunting & Narud for Orgatec 2024

This October at Orgatec 2024, Flokk will present "Borrowed from the Loop", highlighting the company's commitment to sustainable design, whilst showcasing modern workspace design.

Designed by the creative duo Hunting & Narud, the 600m² exhibit will be rooted in the principles of the circular economy, where nothing is permanent, and all materials are intended for reuse or recycling, allowing attendees to experience how innovative design can align with environmental responsibility.

"There's something about these fairs; they seem so permanent for a few days, then they disappear. Given the opportunity to design a stand for Flokk, and with such a huge space, we wanted to create a stand that not only minimises waste but also makes a memorable impact," the designers explain. "When we talk about a circular economy, we talk about borrowing something. The stand is designed for reuse or recycling afterward, hence the name 'Borrowed from the Loop.'"

Visitors will encounter Flokk’s furniture in a playful, engaging setting that tells a story about materials and sustainability alongside minimal waste. The exhibit will feature real-life work scenarios, from personal workspaces to collaborative environments, showcasing how sustainable materials can be integrated into everyday office furniture. "Office furniture can often be very serious," Hunting & Narud note. "With Flokk's exhibition, we aim to keep it light and playful, presenting the designs in a fun and engaging way."

The stand's design, reminiscent of a theatre set, will be primarily constructed from cardboard—chosen for its lightweight, flexible, and recyclable properties. The designers will use various cardboard types to create different effects, even incorporating cardboard tubes from used fabric rolls from Flokk's factories. Every aspect of the stand, from lighting to office accessories, has been borrowed from partner brands and will be returned after the exhibition, reinforcing the concept of borrowing from the loop.

The exhibit also celebrates colour and fabric. The stand itself features muted tones, serving as a backdrop that allows the furniture to stand out. "We’ve created a palette that will not only make the furniture pop but also tie everything together coherently," say the designers. "Working with colour, material, and finish (CMF) is essential to unify the diverse brands under one holistic brand."

Building with cardboard posed unique challenges, including health and safety concerns, particularly the fire risks associated with large amounts of flammable material. The designers collaborated with the Orgatec team and their production partners to ensure the stand will be both fireproof and sustainable. Even the graphics on the cardboard will be printed with water-based ink to maintain recyclability, and assembly methods chosen to allow easy disassembly and recycling.

Orgatec 2024 takes place from October 22nd – 25th at the Messe, Cologne. Flokk's "Borrowed from the Loop" is set to inspire and entertain, making it a must-see at this year's exhibition.
